Dean Henry Abramson
Interim Chair of Judaic Studies
In keeping with the Jewish tradition of lifelong learning, all Touro College South students are required to complete 21 credits in Judaic Studies. Our graduates – whether they choose to major in Psychology, Business or any other field of study – are distinguished by the integration of Jewish values and philosophy in their academic life and future careers (students who study intensive Judaic Studies at Yeshivot or Seminaries in Israel may be eligible for transfer credit to fulfill this requirement). At Touro College South, students need not abandon their Judaic studies while they pursue higher secular education, as we offer a wide range of Jewish learning opportunities in accordance with the Talmudic dictum (AZ 19a), אין אדם לומד תורה אלא ממקום שלבו חפץ: a person cannot learn Torah except in a place their heart chooses. We strive to provide the most conducive learning environment possible, allowing students who are committed to their Jewish identities to advance their professional careers while maintaining their connection to the eternal values of Judaism and the teachings of the Torah.
