Criteria for Admission
The Touro College Graduate School of Social Work seeks to admit students committed to working with underserved and diverse populations in an urban environment. To be considered for
admission, applicants must hold a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university. Please note: Online degrees may not meet admission requirements. Applicants should have achieved a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 in their
undergraduate studies. They should also have completed,
as part of the overall Liberal Arts and Sciences requirement
for their degree, a minimum of 45 credit hours in areas such as Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, History, or Economics;
other courses in the Liberal Arts may
include English Language and Literature, Foreign Languages,
Laboratory Sciences (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Music, Art, and Mathematics.
Applicants
are expected to demonstrate good written and verbal communications
skills and to possess the personal qualities necessary for
professional social work practice: social and emotional maturity,
adaptability, respect for diversity, a concern for others, and the
capacity for self-reflection. To help them determine their
suitability for the profession, prospective students are therefore strongly encouraged to
obtain some prior experience in human services or social work (paid, volunteer, research, or internship) before applying to undertake graduate social work education.
