Touro Law to Hold Program on Tankleff Case

Central Islip, N.Y., March 11, 2009- Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center will hold a program titled “The Tankleff Case and the Problem of Unjust Convictions,” on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at the Law Center in Central Islip, New York.

Panelists will discuss several aspects of the case including the arrest of 17-year-old Martin Tankleff in September 1988, his subsequent conviction, the appeals process and his release from prison after 17 years.

Panelists will include Martin Tankleff; Robert Gottlieb, Tankleff’s trial counsel; Bruce Barket, Tankleff’s lawyer post-conviction; Mark Dwyer, chief of the Appeals Bureau and counsel to the district attorney in the New York County District Attorney’s office; and Professor Richard Moran, Mt. Holyoke College sociologist, criminologist and expert on wrongful convictions. Both Gottlieb and Dwyer are members of the New York State Bar Association Task Force on Wrongful Convictions.

There will also be a pre-program video presentation on the history and background of the Tankleff Case at 5:30 p.m. at the Law Center.
