New York, N.Y., March 17, 2009 - Mr. Yoel Kleinman of Jerusalem, a student of Touro College in Israel (TCI), has been awarded the inaugural Rachel and Leo Sussman Dean’s Scholarship for the spring semester of the 2008-2009 academic year. The scholarship was awarded to Mr. Kleinman in memory of the late Mr. & Mrs. Sussman, who supported many medical, academic and Jewish causes in the United States and Israel.
Mr. Kleinman grew up in a small Jewish community in Guatemala and attended high school at the American School of Guatemala. He completed one year of college at Tecnologico de Monterrey (ITESM) in Mexico and currently is studying at Yeshivat Binyan Olam in Jerusalem, as well as attending TCI.
"It is a genuine pleasure to award our inaugural Rachel and Leo Sussman Dean's Scholarship to Mr. Yoel Kleinman," said Rabbi Yitzchak S. Handel, Ph.D. and dean of TCI. "Mr. Kleinman envisions his stay in Israel as an opportunity to develop both spiritually and professionally, and to prepare for a career and lifestyle that will allow him contribute to society. Already he has demonstrated serious dedication to his goals and we at TCI are grateful to the Sussmans, ob"m, for enabling us to assist him in obtaining them."
Mr. Yoel Kleinman said: "I am truly grateful for the help Touro College in Israel has given me. The world is built by the people who construct it. I thank TCI and the Sussmans for caring, and for building a better world for all of us".
