TOURO COLLEGE APPOINTS OVER 25 UNDERGRADUATE FULL TIME FACULTY FOR 2007-08 ACADEMIC YEAR

New York, N.Y., February 11, 2008 - Dr. Bernard Lander, founder and president of Touro College, today announced the hiring of over 25 highly qualified new full-time faculty members to teach at the undergraduate level across a broad range of departments and schools at Touro College.

The additions grew out of a multi-year faculty hiring plan that called for new teaching staff in a variety of disciplines, including history, psychology, biology, political science, mathematics, and communications. In all, close to 50 new undergraduate faulty members have been appointed in the first two years of the plan.

"We are extremely proud of our new additions and expect they will bring additional vigor to our already distinguished faculty," said Dr. Stanley Boylan, Touro’s vice president of undergraduate education and dean of faculties.

Currently, there are over 250 full-time faculty members teaching in the undergraduate colleges. Touro’s full-time faculty, including graduate and professional schools, consists of more of than 430 instructional staff members.

Below is a sampling of the distinguished new hires:

• Dr. Morris Snow, associate professor of mathematics and actuarial sciences, teaches at the Lander College for Men. Dr. Snow has over 30 years of industry experience, including eight years serving as vice president and actuary at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He received his B.A. from Brooklyn College and his Ph.D. in mathematics from Yeshiva University.
• Dr. Martin Vasas, assistant professor of mathematics, teaches at the New York School of Career and Applied Studies. He has a B.A. from Yeshiva University, as well as an M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. from Columbia University. Dr. Vasas taught previously at Yeshiva University and Brooklyn College. He also has computer industry experience at Merrin Financial, ILX Systems, and, most recently, with Bloomberg, L.P.
• C. Daniel Chill, associate professor of political science, teaches at the Lander College for Women/The Anna Ruth and Mark Hasten School. Professor Chill, who has a J.D. from Yale Law School, served as senior partner at Graubard Miller and its predecessor firms, and as a chief counsel to the Speaker of the New York State Assembly and the New York State Assembly Task Force on Reapportionment.
• Dr. Sabra Brock, assistant professor of management, teaches management and marketing courses at the New York School of Career and Applied Studies and at the Lander Colleges. An expert on “transformational learning” in business, she has taught at New York University’s Stern School of Business and Pratt Institute, and served as vice president, marketing research, new products and strategic planning with Citigroup in Hong Kong and New York.
• Dr. Richard Ninness, assistant professor of history, teaches history and humanities at the Lander Colleges of Arts and Sciences – Flatbush; the Lander College for Women/The Anna Ruth and Mark Hasten School; and at the Lander College for Men. An expert in medieval and renaissance history in Germany, Dr. Ninness has taught this subject at Marywood University (Scranton, Pa.), Villanova University, and the University of Pennsylvania, and has received a fellowship from the Institut fur Europusche Geschicht in Mainz.
• Dr. Shaindy Pretter, assistant professor of psychology, joins Touro after serving as assistant professor of clinical sociomedical sciences at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. Dr. Pretter, who will teach in the Lander College of Arts and Sciences - Flatbush, is a noted expert in health/psychology who has participated in a number of grant research studies dealing with the impact of disease on caregivers and family members.
• Dr. Morris Bronstein, assistant professor of psychology, teaches at the Lander College of Arts and Sciences - Flatbush and at the New York School of Career and Applied Studies. An expert in forensic psychology, Dr. Bronstein holds a J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law, an LL.M. from New York University, an M.A. in psychology from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. from Union Institute. He previously taught at St. Peter’s College (Englewood Cliffs, N.J.), Kean College of New Jersey (Union Township, N.J.), and Medaille College (Buffalo, N.Y.). He also served as director of mental health services for the New York State Department of Mental Health’s Work Release Facilities in Staten Island, N.Y.
• Dr. Aliza Holtz, assistant professor of biology, teaches at the Lander College of Arts and Sciences - Flatbush and at the New York School of Career and Applied Studies. Dr. Holtz, who has taught at Vermont College, the College of New Rochelle, and Boston University, received a B.A. degree in psychology from Brandeis University and a Ph.D in biology from Boston University. An editorial consultant and medical writer, Dr. Holtz has contributed to numerous health-related and scholarly articles. She is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Medical Writers Association, the New York Academy of Sciences, and Sigma Xi (The Scientific Research Society).
• Dr. Sreevardhini Venkatraman, assistant professor of biology at the Lander College for Women/The Anna Ruth and Mark Hasten School, and the New York School of Career and Applied Studies, has a B.A. in chemistry from Queen Mary’s College (India) and a Ph.D. from St. John’s University. Dr. Venkatraman previously taught microbiology at the Madras Medical College (India) and at St. John’s University. She received the Clare Boothe Luce Women in Science Doctoral Award while at St. John’s, and has participated in research on fungal genetics.
• Ms. Rita Roitman, M.S., CCC-SLP, is an instructor of speech pathology at the Lander College of Arts and Sciences - Flatbush. She has experience as a speech-language pathologist with The Guild for Exceptional Children, Staten Island University Hospital, Challenge Early Intervention Center, and the Williamsburg Developmental School. Ms. Roitman received her B.S. and her M.S. from Long Island University (Brooklyn Campus), and is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the New York State Speech-Language Hearing Association.
• Jason Alan Carvell, assistant professor of communications at the New York School of Career and Applied Studies, received a baccalaureate degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, an M.A. in Russian drama from the Moscow Art Theatre School (Russia), and an M.F.A. in drama from Carnegie Mellon University. A creative artist, Mr. Carvell is a Shakespearean actor and director and an accomplished sculptor, as well. Mr. Carvell co-founded and served as managing director of the American Studio Theatre (New York City). He teaches speech and communications skills at Touro’s Midtown and Harlem campuses.
• Alan Mond, instructor of political science at the Lander College of Arts and Sciences – Flatbush, served in leadership positions in a variety of Jewish communal agencies and organizations over the post twenty years, including the National Council of Young Israel, the National Jewish Commission on Law and Public Service (COLPA), and the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies. Mr. Mond received his B.A. in political science from Yeshiva College and his M.A. in comparative and international politics from New York University.
