Application Process For Continuing and New Students

Applying for financial aid, which must be done annually, can be simplified by following the steps below. Please note that you must also be registered before aid can be processed.

Step 1: File your Federal Income Tax Return
Complete your 2012  federal income tax return. If you are married and did not file jointly, your spouse's income information is also required. If you are not required to file a federal tax return, you must complete a Statement of Non-Filing. This form can be found under Financial Aid Forms.

Step 2: Apply for a PIN (Personal Identification Number)
Apply for a Personal Identification Number (PIN) at www.PIN.ed.gov. This will allow you to sign your FAFSA application electronically. If you already have a PIN, you do not need to re-apply for another.

Step 3: Fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on or after January 1st
Complete the 2013-2014 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.FAFSA.ed.gov. Make sure to select school code 010142 (Touro College - New York).

Step 4: Review the Cost of Attendance (COA)
Review the COA to determine how much loans you will need to apply for.

Step 5: Complete the Financial Aid Packet & Student Loan Request Statement
Students interested in taking out Direct Student Loans should complete Touro College Financial Aid Application. Students interested in applying for a Direct Grad PLUS loan must complete the Credit Check Authorization, and specify the amount. This is on Page 2 of the application.


Step 6: Take the Entrance Test
First time Direct Stafford Loan borrowers at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine need to take the Entrance Test. The Entrance test is an online tutorial that teaches students about their rights and responsibilities as loan borrowers. Please go to https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/index.action to complete this task. Make sure to use your FAFSA PIN to log in and select Graduate Student.

Step 7: Sign Electronic Master Promissory Note (eMPN)
If you are a first time borrower at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, you must go to www.studentloans.gov and e-sign an eMPN for the Direct Unsubsidized Loan, a separate eMPN must be signed for the Direct Grad PLUS Loan in order for your funds to disburse.


Step 8: Private/Alternative Loan
For Private/Alternative Loan applicants you must notify the Financial Aid office when you apply in order for the school to accept the loan

Note: Additional documentation may be required after Financial Aid review.  Loan funds will be disbursed directly to the college.  Any anticipated refund of aid will be distributed by the Bursar's office 10-14 days after funds have been received by the school.
