The Flatbush Women's Division

Degree Requirements...

Class Schedule and Credit Load

Classes for women are scheduled at the Flatbush Campus Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and evenings and during the day on Sunday. Students may carry up to 18 credits per semester.

Afternoon classes begin at 2:00 PM.  Evening classes start at 6:00 PM.  Sunday classes are scheduled from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM.  The course schedule provides a great deal of flexibility and is designed to accommodate the needs both of students who take a part-time seminary program or who teach in the morning, as well as needs of individuals whose employment responsibilities require an evening college program.

A double summer session is usually offered at Touro in Flatbush enabling students to accelerate their progress toward a degree.

Seminary Credits

Students may earn up to a maximum of 48 college credits for post-high school seminary studies pursued in Israel or in the United States.  Credits are awarded both for work completed prior to admission to Touro College, as well as for studies undertaken while enrolled at the College.  To receive credits, students must submit an official seminary transcript for evaluation to the College.  No credit will be given for courses completed with a grade below “C”.

The granting of credits for seminary work is based on Touro College academic policies.  The credit values assigned to courses by the College are not necessarily the same as the credit values given by seminaries.  Students who study for one year, full-time at an Israeli seminary may usually receive 24 to 32 college credits.  The awarding of credits for part-time seminary studies varies depending on the schedule of the individual program.

Writing Proficiency Requirements

Effective  writing skills are essential for success in any career or profession.  Students are required to take up to three semesters of English Composition (LLE 100, LLE 101 and LLE 102) at Touro College unless exempted by a placement examination.  Since English Composition is a core requirement, students are expected to register for it during their first semester at the College.

Students who have earned composition credits with a grade of “C or better at another accredited college prior to enrolling at Touro also must take a placement examination.  Those students who are placed into English Composition II will receive up to six transfer credits for prior work; those students who are placed into English Composition I will receive three transfer credits for prior work.
