AUTISM WORKSHOPS:
Students who are taking only a few courses with Touro in order to add on a disabilities certification
to an already held general education certification, must complete a 3-hour autism workshop. Now Touro
does offer such a workshop. After the workshop is completed, documentation
should be sent to NYSED, either by the organization offering the workshop or the student. For more information please CLICK HERE

In order to expedite the teacher certification process, students who wish to have transcripts sent to the New York State Education Department (NYSED), should have their transcripts sent to NYSED directly by Touro College, rather than sending their transcripts to NYSED on their own.
PLEASE NOTE:For those who need to apply for certification, they must see their respective program adviser. The certification officer(s) are Kimberly Felix (Kimberly.Felix@touro.edu) or Linette Ruiz (linnette.ruiz@touro.edu) at (212) 463 - 0400 ext. 5268 or 5283. About the Program
The
master's of science degree programs in Education and
Special Education are the generic graduate programs
of GSEP. They have been designed to meet the graduate
education needs of the largest number of professionals
in public and private education, beginning with areas
in which the GSEP faculty members have particular expertise
and for which there is great need. These programs add
depth in philosophy, theory, and practice of classroom
teaching in general education and special education.
The programs are offered at the early childhood (birth
- grade 2), elementary school (grades 1 - 6), and middle
school (grades 5 - 9) levels. They are dual certification
programs leading to certification in both general education
and special education.
Participants
in the MS in Education and Special Education programs
study with faculty members who have well-established
national and international reputations in their specialties.
In addition, a number of world-class experts in these
fields from the USA, France, Israel, Canada and elsewhere
serve the program as adjunct, part-time, and visiting
faculty members.
Student Body to Be Served
The Graduate Division is interested in serving the educational needs of applicants who are beginning their studies in education and special education as well as applicants who teach full-time and want to increase the breadth and depth of their knowledge base while upgrading their professional preparation and credentials. Applications from working professionals who need evening and/or Sunday classes are encouraged.
Interested applicants are considered for admission without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sex, national origin, age, or disability, except that special efforts are made to recruit qualified applicants from "underserved" groups in the New York City area, including applicants from the African-American, Latino, Asian, and Russian communities, as well as applicants who are Yeshivoth and Jewish day school educators. In recognition of the mission of Touro College, the program has a Women’s Division specific to the needs of orthodox Jewish women. |
