Applicants for admission to teacher education programs will be evaluated according to the criteria described below. These criteria will be applied flexibly (especially in the case of minority or recent immigrant applicants) provided there is alternative evidence of aptitude for graduate study.

- Completion of a baccalaureate degree from a regionally-accredited academic institution or its equivalent, with a major or its equivalent in a liberal arts and sciences subject area and liberal arts and sciences courses in the following areas:
- English Composition
- Literature
- Social Science
- Language other than English
- Science
- History
- Mathematics
- Speech
- Arts
- Computer Literacy
Students who do not meet the liberal arts and sciences requirements may be permitted to complete the requirements while they do their graduate studies.
- A minimum undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4-point scale)
- Application for admission to the Graduate Division of the School of Education and Psychology
- An interview by the program chair, deputy chair, or program director
- A short writing sample to be completed at the interview
(It may be determined that an applicant is required to complete a non-credit, tuition-free writing seminar: EDU514.)
- A personal statement of the applicant’s goals and objectives
- Two letters of reference from employers and/or professors
- Official college transcript(s)
- Proof of immunization
Students who do not meet the major and liberal arts and sciences requirements may be permitted to complete the requirements while they are doing their graduate studies.

A brief interview by a faculty committee.

Applicants whose native language is not English must obtain a score of at least 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). This requirement can be waived provided there is alternative evidence of the applicant's proficiency in English. |
