Stephen Phillips, M.A., CBC, is currently the executive director of the Children's Health Education Foundation (CHEF) ( www.touro.edu/children). He is also Director of the Advanced Certificate in Bariatric Science Program (www.touro.edu/bariatric) and an associate professor of education and psychology in the Graduate Division of Touro College in New York City
Professor Phillips is also a Board Certified Bariatric Counselor (CBC) with more than two decades of experience treating obesity and related disorders in the context of primary care medicine. His graduate education and training in health psychology, which includes the physical and social sciences, has uniquely prepared him to address the biological mechanisms, psychological processes and social influences of obesities. He has evaluated, counseled and treated thousands of patients, adults, children and families, individually and in group settings.
In addition to his administrative and clinical responsibilities Professor Phillips continues to teach graduate courses in bariatric science, health psychology and eating disorders, and actively serves on the Board of Advisors to HealthCorps (www.healthcorps.org), a nationwide school-age public school initiative that he co-founded with Dr. Mehmet Oz. He is the public policy and legislative officer for the American Association of Bariatric Counselors (www.aabc-certification.org) and is a participating fellow at the Film and Education Research Academy, Teachers College, Columbia University (www.tc.columbia.edu/fera).
