Carol Steen received her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. She is a practicing artist and has taught at Touro College since 1983. Previously, she taught at the University of Michigan, and at William Paterson University. Her work is in numerous public collections including the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Robert McGlaughlin Gallery in Canada, and the Library of Congress. Carol has had numerous solo exhibitions and received grants and fellowships from the Printmaking Workshop in NYC, the MacDowell Colony, and the New York Foundation for the Arts. She's participated in many television and radio documentaries including 60 Minutes, the BBC, and National Public Radio, and her work has appeared in numerous books and magazines including Discover Magazine and the Smithsonian Magazine among many others. She published an article about her work in Leonardo, The MIT Press, and gave a paper about her work at the College Art Association's 93rd conference in Atlanta in February, 2005. She has done freelance work for such notable companies as Equity Marketing and Henson Associates. One of her recent paintings illustrates the cover of Dr. Jeffrey Gray's book, "Consciousness, published by Oxford University Press in 2004.
