Barbara Staiano-Johannes, RPA-C, D.C.
1996 - 1998
After graduating high school in 1984, Barbara Staiano enrolled in Nassau Community College. Upon completion, she was accepted to New York Chiropractic College, from which she graduated in 1991 and received her Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine degree.
Barbara decided that she wanted to be more involved in allopathic medicine rather than holistic medicine and therefore enrolled in the Paramedic school at Booth Memorial Medical Center in Queens. She graduated from the paramedic program as valedictorian of her class.
Barbara worked as a paramedic at Booth Memorial Medical Center for six years. While on duty in the Emergency Room, she met a Physician's Assistant on clinical rotation and became curious about the PA profession. Barbara researched the PA profession and discovered that Touro College, in their Division of Health Sciences, offers a PA Program. She applied to the program and was subsequently accepted.
In 1998, Barbara graduated Cum Laude from the Touro College Physician's Assistant Program and was hired by the Department of Surgery at Elmhurst Hospital Center. Presently, Barbara is the Clinical Coordinator for the Touro College Manhattan PA Program and continues her clinical practice at Elmhurst Hospital.
During our discussion, Barbara stated that she chose Touro College because of its small class size and its long-standing and well-established PA program. Touro College has been a leader in training Physician Assistants since 1972 and has graduated over 1800 successful PA's. For Barbara, being a PA and helping people is rewarding.
Barbara mentioned that her husband Barry, with her encouragement, applied to and was accepted to the PA program at Touro College, in Bay Shore, Long Island. Upon successful completion, Barry Johannes will be graduating this August.
Barbara can be reached via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (212) 463-0400, extension 649.
